Animal Safari: LA Zoo

If you love animals, then this is the program for you! Join us for an animal safari where we will be taking a virtual trip to check out and learn about new animals each week. This week we will be visiting the LA Zoo.

The Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens, located in Griffith Park, Los Angeles, California, offers a remarkable experience for wildlife enthusiasts and families. Since its opening in 1966, the zoo has become a home for over 1,400 animals representing nearly 300 species, many of which are endangered. The zoo attracts approximately 1.8 million visitors each year.

Key features of the Los Angeles Zoo include:

  • Botanical Gardens: Certified in 2002, the zoo includes 15 different collections of plants, highlighting over 800 species with more than 7,400 individual plants.
  • Signature Exhibits: Notable exhibits include the “Chimpanzees of Mahale Mountains,” “Campo Gorilla Reserve,” “Elephants of Asia,” “Rainforest of the Americas,” and “The LAIR (Living Amphibians, Invertebrates, and Reptiles).”
  • Conservation Initiatives: The zoo is an international leader in the preservation of endangered species and a conservation center for the care and study of wildlife.

The zoo is committed to saving wildlife, enriching communities, and creating connections to nature. It is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), meeting rigorous professional standards for animal welfare.
